From a functional workplace to a great working environment

When furnishing an office, functional equipment such as desks, chairs and cabinets often come to mind first. But what if the room still feels cold and impersonal afterwards? This is where an often underestimated aspect of office design comes into play: the furnishings. It’s these details that can take an office from being good to great.

Plants in the office 

Plants bring life to the room and improve air quality. Not only do they purify the air, they also absorb sound waves and can be used to improve acoustics. In addition, they provide a calming atmosphere and can reduce stress. For example, a moss wall is a nice way to incorporate greenery into your work environment. 

Lighting 

Light has a major effect on how we work. It can affect our mood, concentration and alertness. Good lighting is therefore essential in a productive working environment, but you can also play with it. Combine natural daylight with soft, warm artificial lighting to create a pleasant atmosphere. Besides the functional benefits, lighting can add an additional element to make a room visually more attractive. For example, think about the effect a beautiful designer lamp above a conference table or lounge will have. 

Textiles 

Consider incorporating colourful pillows in your lunch area, a warm rug in your lounge area, or acoustic curtains to separate rooms. Cushions, curtains and rugs can make a room warmer and more inviting and contribute to the acoustics.  

Decoration and office accessories 

Decorative elements such as vases, photo frames, coat racks and even a nice waste bin can complete a room.  They add personality and character to your office. Even office supplies like a toolbox can add to the look of your desk if chosen carefully. Consider objects that are not only practical, but also contribute to the aesthetic whole.

Furnishing an office does not stop after putting the furniture in place. It’s about creating an environment that is functional, inspiring and welcoming. Paying attention to such details as lighting, office decoration and personal touches will help you create a workplace in which employees feel comfortable and can perform optimally.
