At the end of 2025, the Brussels South Police Zone moved into its new central headquarters in Anderlecht. With a floor area of 15,000 m² and space for more than 700 staff members, the building is a large‑scale and complex project where citizen reception, security and everyday working comfort come together. From the outset, the focus was on creating a contemporary working environment that is high‑performing, human‑centred and able to grow with the organisation. From listening to a workplace strategy As with any project, we began with a thorough analysis: how do people work today, what needs exist within the organisation, and how can space and fit‑out best support that way of working? The discussions revealed three clear priorities: comfort, ergonomics and flexibility. At the same time, the project posed a distinct challenge: how do you support intensive, shared use across seven floors without compromising focus and calm? These insights formed the basis for a considered workplace strategy centred on functionality, wellbeing and future‑readiness. Ergonomics as the foundation The Brussels South Police Zone consciously opted for an open working environment without assigned desks. This calls for a layout that can be easily adapted to different users and modes of work. “Staff members are free to choose their workstation, which means every station must be flexible and ergonomically adjustable.” — Jurgen Van Dyck, Account Manager, Pami. The choice of sit‑stand desks was therefore an obvious one. In both open work areas and specific focus spaces, they allow staff to quickly tailor their workstation to personal preferences and tasks, while encouraging variation in working posture. In a building characterised by intensive shared use, acoustics are a crucial factor for concentration and efficiency. For that reason, significant emphasis was placed on acoustic screens and sound‑absorbing elements. These solutions reduce disruptive noise, structure the space and create clearly defined zones for concentrated work, without undermining the open character of the environment. A contemporary working environment that works The end result is a warm, modern and human‑centred whole in which ergonomics, flexibility and acoustic comfort come together. Sit‑stand desks, ergonomic seating solutions in subtle accent colours and thoughtfully designed acoustics provide calm, focus and enjoyment at work.
